Young, cocky and loud! There is no other way to describe brash and irreverently successful DJ Aqeel. His “Kishore Da n’ the Daddy Mix” came in at a time when remixing as an art was losing its identity. Daddy Mix broke through all previously held notions and created an attitude, a character to remixes. Aqeel had hit it right as the sales of his album continued rising. And with legendary singers Kishore Kumar & Asha Bhosle’s voices being retained, the video song “Nahin Nahin” sounded just brilliant – DJ Aqeel had finally arrived. Aqeel followed it up with the redoubtable success of “Ek Haseena Thi”, and moved into a league of success quite his own. 2003 saw his return with “The Return Of The Daddy Mix” which had the globe rocking to his remix of “Kehdoon Tumhe” with the magical “I just wanna be close to you”. His last album “DON” released in late 2003 had Jackie Shroff playing the “Don” in the video, surrounded by beautiful belles high up in the sky! It caused a huge stir and had wannabes come out with almost 8 me-too versions of the song, none of which came close to Dj Aqeel’s style! "It took years of hard work and dedication to reach the stage I am at today," he says, "and to think that I stumbled upon this career purely by chance." He also has big plans to compose original tracks for Hindi films. With the remix business being swamped with new DJs at every turn, this transition certainly assures him a secure future. But nothing, he assures will take him away from his first love – Remixing - so much the better for all his fans!
